Christine Clifford is Vice President of Access Mortgage Research & Consulting, Inc. and has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry including 16 years at Access Mortgage Research. She divides her time between on-going benchmark studies, on which she directs the analytical work, proprietary research, new project development and managing business operations of the firm.
Maximizing the usefulness of the twice annual benchmark studies’ findings is Christine’s primary commitment to clients. Through individual analysis of each participant, she develops strategies to improve profitability and describe the unique characteristics of each participant’s cost structure relative to their peers. She spends much of her time thinking about our clients’ challenges and opportunities and preparing for conference calls with clients’ senior management to discuss their key issues.
In 2001, at the request of NAHB and with input from most of the top thirty home builders, she designed a benchmark study specifically for builder-affiliated mortgage companies (BAM). The annual study focuses on ways to improve capture rates and efficiency. The BAM report now involves a quarterly update, as well as in-depth annual information so that participants can benefit from both timely and detailed data. By providing industry information, the finance divisions are better able to explain the market forces impacting the mortgage industry to their parent builders.
As an outgrowth of her experience analyzing mortgage banking profitability and operations, she is frequently commissioned for proprietary research and consulting projects. Recently she has worked on projects about outsourced processing and automated underwriting.
Previously, Christine was in charge of the published products division of the firm and worked on definitive studies of the home equity market, subservicing and the mortgage brokerage industry. These studies were used by industry members and other interested parties to understand the size and shape of these segments of mortgage lending. She has also completed studies comparing the origination channels of the nation’s largest subprime credit home equity lenders.
Christine is a Certified Mortgage Banker and has a Masters Degree in Business and Management from the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. Prior to joining Access Mortgage Research in 1993, Christine gained financial services and real estate experience at Alex. Brown & Sons, TRW, Trans Union, Freddie Mac, and SMR Research.
